New York – January 2010 — Intellectual property law firm Darby & Darby P.C. elected Mitchell Bernstein, Ph.D., Dianna G. Goldenson , Robert L. Jacobson, Mark P. Walters and Jamie L. Wiegand as Principals of the firm. Richard J. Katz and Nicholas A. Zachariades, Ph.D. were promoted to Senior Counsel.
Mitchell Bernstein, Ph.D., resident in the firm’s New York office, is a registered patent attorney specializing in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the areas of chemistry, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining Darby & Darby, Dr. Bernstein was Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Structural Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he headed a laboratory and taught courses on medical histology and cell biology.
Dianna G. Goldenson, resident in the firm’s New York office, specializes in global patent prosecution and opinion work, primarily in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical/chemical engineering fields, including significant experience in reexamination proceedings, due diligence investigations, freedom to operate studies and issues related to the Hatch-Waxman Act.
Robert L. Jacobson, resident in the firm’s Seattle office, focuses his practice on patent, trademark and copyright litigation. He has represented clients in patent disputes in the fields of software, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, the mechanical arts, and biotechnology. Mr. Jacobson was selected as a “Washington Rising Star” for 2008 and 2009 by Washington Law & Politics Magazine. Prior to joining Darby & Darby, he served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable James R. Browning, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mark P. Walters, resident in the firm’s Seattle office, is a patent attorney with extensive trial experience in complex intellectual property cases. His litigation experience has covered matters from software to novelty items. In addition, Mr. Walters also maintains an active patent prosecution docket. Mr. Walters has been selected a “ Washington Rising Star” by Washington Law & Politics Magazine for 2004, 2006-2009.
Jamie L. Wiegand, resident in the firm’s Seattle office, is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience in computing security, electronic commerce, estimation theory, public key infrastructures, real-time simulations and related technologies. In addition to his strength in patent prosecution, Mr. Wiegand is a skilled litigator having led numerous successful cases in arbitration and copyright infringement.
Richard J. Katz, resident in the firm’s New York office, focuses on drafting and prosecuting utility and design patent applications, client counseling, due diligence, portfolio development, litigation, and license negotiation in a wide range of technologies.
Nicholas A. Zachariades, Ph.D., resident in the firm’s Palm Beach Gardens office, focuses his practice on patent opinion counseling and patent procurement in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields. Dr. Zachariades has extensive experience in the areas of immunology, small molecules, molecular biology, virology, vaccines, oncology, genetics, bioinformatics and biochip arrays.
