Patent Agents & Scientific Advisors

Patent agents and scientific advisors are an integral part of Darby & Darby's thriving patent practice. One of Darby & Darby’s strengths is the broad technical knowledge and experience of our professional staff. Darby has established a program whereby we employ individuals who have excelled academically in either science or engineering, and are interested in pursuing careers as patent agents or patent attorneys. Patent agents and scientific advisors will utilize their scientific expertise while developing their skills in intellectual property law.

Our scientific advisors are required to become a registered Patent Agent within a year of joining the firm. We do not require that patent agents attend law school. However, if they choose to do so, the firm will provide support in the form of tuition and book reimbursements, a reduced work schedule and class year credit when they join the firm as an attorney.
